Since May 2006, the Pearl Action Aid Foundation (PAAF) has been dedicated to providing essential meals to street children three times a week within a Kampala slum area. Recently, our efforts have expanded through partnerships with fellow organizations committed to nourishing these vulnerable youth.
Each session, we ensure that 100 children receive nutritious meals consisting of rice, vegetables, and occasional servings of meat for special occasions, ensuring no food goes to waste. Surplus food is promptly distributed to waiting children and other individuals facing hunger in the slums of Kampala.
In addition to addressing their nutritional needs, PAAF extends support to these boys by providing access to hygiene facilities. Upon arrival, they are offered soap and water for personal cleanliness and clothes washing. Clean garments are laid out to dry under the warm midday sun, while additional clothing is procured from local markets to aid those in urgent need.
Demonstrating our commitment to their well-being, minor cuts and grazes are tended to promptly, and those with more serious medical concerns are accompanied to nearby clinics or hospitals for proper treatment.
A palpable sense of joy and camaraderie permeates our gatherings, as the boys engage in various recreational activities, fostering an environment where they can experience happiness and security.
Under our care, they find respite from the harsh realities of street life, enabling them to rest peacefully—a luxury seldom afforded to them otherwise. Tragically, the ordeal of homelessness has driven some boys to seek solace in inhaling jet fuel, a desperate attempt to escape the despair of their circumstances.
Recognizing the importance of spiritual and emotional support, dedicated time is allocated for communal and individual prayers, providing solace and guidance to those seeking comfort. Moreover, our doors are open to Christian visitors who graciously share their faith, enriching our interactions with profound moments of reflection and encouragement.
